Abstract The use of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) with internal curing (IC) increases composite strength but increases the risk of spalling under high temperatures. As including fibers in the composite can mitigate this risk, this study tested UHPC specimens with and without IC and at different levels of jute and polypropylene fibers under ISO 834 heating conditions, monitoring internal temperature, vapor pressure, and spalling period and extent. Control specimens were severely damaged whereas spalling was decreased by the inclusion of IC and fiber. A jute fiber content of 0.5% was the most effective of all combinations at mitigating damage.
