Abstract This study looks into the combined effects of nanosilica (NS) and graphene oxide (GO) when jointly added to cement-based systems and their interaction with superplasticizers (SP). Cement pastes with NS and GO contents of up to 3% and 0.03% over cement weight respectively, and with superplasticizer dosages varying between 0.6% and 1.2%, were analyzed by means of the Marsh cone, calorimetry, uniaxial compression and water sorptivity tests. Results showed significant improvements resulting from the combined addition of NS and GO, and that their efficiency was significantly improved by increasing the SP dosage. Optimal GO and NS contents were found to be 0.018% and 2.2% respectively.
