Abstract The earthen sites within humid environment are mostly distributed in southeast coastal areas of China, having remarkable value of historical research. However, there still exist issues in protection of sites due to discrepancies among each of them and vulnerability of relics. This paper initially draws a distinction between earthen sites located in humid and dry environment, and then the damage status of earthen sites within humid environment was classified and summarized in the light of geographical information and physical and chemical properties of the soil. At the same time, the mechanism and specific materials for in-situ protection technology of earthen sites in moisture environment are innovatively expounded. The selection and application prospects of curing materials for earthen sites are emphasized. It is pointed out that traditional reinforcement reagents used in dry environments are subject to constraints of moisture environment. The results provide suggestions and improvement measures for the in-situ protection method of earthen sites suitable for use in moisture environments based on researches conducted on different soil environment and curing requirements.
