Abstract A simple design method is proposed to obtain the desired porosity by controlling density and compaction efforts. Then, the w/c ratio and chemical admixture were varied to obtain the desired porosity and to evaluate their influence on the permeability and mechanical performance of pervious concrete. The incorporation of a rheology-modifying admixture showed an improvement in the densification and flowability of the mixture, which can increase the mechanical strength. For the same porosity obtained between mixtures, the decrease in w/c ratio did not influence the compressive strength but was shown to increase flexural tensile strength.
