Abstract Waste plastics are a growing concern for society and need sustainable strategies to deal with. One of the promising strategies is to use them as a replacement of virgin polymers for asphalt mixture modifications. This article compares the dry and wet methods of asphalt modification with waste plastics to understand the critical factors affecting the modification and shed light on the gaps of knowledge. Marshall test results reveal that both the nature of the waste plastics and the way they are introduced into the asphalt mix have significant impacts on the performance of the resultant asphalt mixture. However, in general, plastic wastes can increase the Stability and decrease the Flow number.
