Conclusions • There is a lack of information on contraceptive switching and discontinuation • Switching and discontinuation rates at six months in a prior study of the HER Salt Lake population was 22.4% • The most common reasons reported for switching are side effects and health concerns related to specific methods • Women may discontinue a method without initiating an alternative even if they do not intend to become pregnant • Contraceptive continuation after post-abortal initiation is understudied • Post-abortion patients are 20% more likely to discontinue than women who never had an abortion
