Abstract Optimizing acute pain treatment for children in the emergency setting is challenging. Despite the prevalence of acute pain experienced in the emergency department, health care professionals provide inconsistent and often inadequate pain treatment for children for a number of different reasons. Undertreated pain can be associated with negative consequences. This review will provide 10 practical, effective, and evidence-based interventions that can be used to reduce the pain experienced by children in the emergency department setting and beyond.
