Abstract For the first time, copper oxide (CuO) nanostructures were synthesized through a new green route using the leaf extract of S. glauca and characterized. The XRD pattern of CuO disclosed diffraction peaks correspond to monoclinic crystal structured CuO. The SEM and HR-TEM images demonstrated the presence of CuO nanostructures. The detected Cu and O elements through the EDAX analysis reveal the pristine nature of the hierarchical CuO nanostructures. Hence, this work complete that the potential bactericidal activity exhibited by CuO nanostructures against Gram negative E. coli (MTCC 1698) bacterial strain with zone of inhibition of 28 mm.
