Abstract With the development of oil and gas production technologies, some commonly used oilfield chemicals can no longer meet the requirements of production. A modified chitosan functional hydrophobic associative polymer CS-g-DLMB/AM/AA is synthesized by using a twin-tail monomer (DLMB), AM, and AA to graft-modify maleated chitosan in this study. The polymer was proved successful synthesis of the polymer. Through the study of rheological properties of polymers, CS-g-DLMB/AM/AA aqueous solution has excellent properties. The structure of chitosan enhances greatly the interaction force between the polymer molecular chains. The introduction of twin-tail improved the associative ability of the polymer molecular chain in water.
