Abstract This manuscript presents the optical, dielectric and multiferroic behavior of (((Bi0.5Na0.5)0.7La0.3) (Ti0.7Fe0.3) O3). The XRD analysis confirms the phase formation. The optical, dielectric and magnetic properties of parent Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 (BNT) is found to improve by the modification through rare earth orthoferrite, LaFeO3. The semiconductor nature of the sample is manifested by thermally activated transport characteristic. The negative temperature coefficient of resistance nature of the compound is found from its temperature variation of bulk conductivity. The new BNT system with minimum energy band gap and large absorption coefficient will be useful for photo voltaic applications.
