Abstract The paper presents the description of a new fossil species Leptotarsus ( sensu lato ) ribeiroi sp. nov. (Diptera, Tipulidae), and additional descriptions from some known species of this genus. The key to the representatives of Cretaceous Leptotarsus from Santana Formation is provided, based on the wing venation. The study was based on specimens of small collections of insects from the Lower Cretaceous Santana Formation (Brazil) deposited in the Staatliches Museum fur Naturkunde in Stuttgart, Germany and the Natural History Museum Institute of Systematics and Evolution of Animals Polish Academy of Sciences, Krakow, Poland.
