Highlights • A “drug holiday” can be considered for patients at low fracture risk• It is optimal after completion of five years of alendronate and three years of zoledronic acid or risedronate use• The “drug holiday” strategy should not be implemented for denosumab, estrogen, SERMs or teriparatide.
