Abstract Among platinum-group elements, Ru is one of the most inexpensive metals, while its melting point (2334 °C) is very high. In this study, we carried out single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) growth by an alcohol catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CVD) in a high vacuum using Ru catalysts. By optimizing the ethanol pressure, we could grow SWCNTs below 700 °C, and succeeded in growth at 500 °C from Ru catalysts, for the first time.
