Abstract Two mitochondria-targeted fluorescent probes (TPP- and TEA-BODIPY) were rationally designed and easily synthesized. These probes can specifically stain mitochondria in living cells with superior brightness, low cytotoxicity and high photostability, thus are quite promising as mitochondrial tracking probes.
