Abstract The post-assembly modification provides a powerful strategy for constructing functional polymeric materials by the selection of suitable functional groups or external stimuli. Herein, we took advantage of photodimerization of coumarins to link the pendent coumarin functional groups of hexagonal metallacycles 1 and 2 to give metallacycle-cored supramolecular polymers 1p and 2p under UV irradiation at 365 nm.
