Abstract The template synthesis of novel bis-tetrabenzoporphyrin complexes of gadolinium, erbium and lutetium is described. The structure of these sandwich-type complexes was confirmed by the elemental analysis, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and optical spectroscopy in the visible, near and middle infrared range. The electrochemical behavior was studied by the cyclic voltammetry and compared to that of the structurally similar bis-phthalocyanine lanthanides. The conductivity of thin films of bis-tetrabenzoporphyrin complexes was measured both in the dark and under illumination. Thin films of erbium complex showed the highest photosensitivity, while the films of the gadolinium complex have the lowest resistivity.
