Abstract Sheet-like MoSe 2 /C nanocomposites were synthesized and employed as the cathode of a rechargeable Mg 2+ /Li + hybrid battery for the first time, which exhibited an excellent electrochemical performance. The structure transformation of the MoSe 2 /C nanocomposite materials during the charge-discharge processes was identified by in situ XRD, and the electrochemical reactions taking place in the battery were evidenced.
