Abstract A stochastic sensor based on a graphene–porphyrin composite (Gr-TPyP) paste was designed for the determination of β-carotene in soft drinks and its response characteristics studied. A linear response was obtained in the concentration range between 1.00 × 10−15 mol L−1 and 1.00 × 10−3 mol L−1, with a low limit of determination (1.00 × 10−15 mol L−1) and a high sensitivity (8.66 × 1010 s−1/mol L−1). The proposed method was used for the assay of β-carotene in soft drinks and shown to be reliable.
