Abstract The convection heat transfer in two divergent fins is significantly enhanced with an electrostatic fluid accelerator (EFA). Some comparisons between positive and negative polarities are made experimentally. On average, negative polarity is 1.9–6% better than positive polarity on the heat transfer enhancement, which should be attributed to the higher negative corona wind velocity. In essence, this is due to the higher negative corona current at the same applied voltage. The energy efficiency of the EFA is analyzed through the coefficient of performance (COP) for both polarities. The COP of the positive EFA is 1.1–2 times that of the negative EFA.
