Abstract In this work, we investigated failed superheater tubes of T22 grade steel steam generators that were used with the SNCR and SCR technology for the injection of additives to the generator for the reduction of the NOx emitted into the atmosphere. With IR techniques, UVVIS and spectrometry were determined the chemical composition of the additives, and the types of early corrosion conditions that produced the failure of the tubes in an SEM analyzed the microstructure, which shows defect production, grain growth, and decarburization.
