Abstract In this paper we present the results of an electromechanical design of a high speed generator directly driven by a Micro-CAES turbine, which is adapted from a turbocharger. Laboratory tests were performed using compressed air as working fluid, and with a three-phase resistive load connected to the generator. The prototype system has shown to run safely at speeds up to 100,000 rpm under no-load and up to 70,000 rpm when supplying a 3.5 kW three-phase load.
