Abstract The calculation and analysis model of 14 MeV neutron flux in the converter has been established, and the neutron flux disturbance of converter to irradiation channel, the leakage of tritium in 6 LiD converter and influence of the converter on the performance of the reactor core were considered. The results show that it is feasible to convert thermal neutron to 14 MeV neutron in HFETR, the optimal thickness of 6 LiD converter is 0.5 mm, and effective yield of thermal neutron converting to 14 MeV neutron is 2.71 × 10 −4 .
