Abstract A simulation of VDE induced major disruption in EAST by using the tokamak simulation code is carried out. The code is firstly calibrated against a full VDE process including free drift, thermal quench and current quench. The simulation results agree with experimental measurements well, including the plasma current, radial and vertical position of the plasma current center, plasma elongation, safety factor at the 95% flux surface, poloidal beta and internal inductance. With this calibration, prediction of halo current is validated against experimental results by comparing the poloidal current flowing through the support legs of the first wall.
