Abstract In this paper, we investigate the extended Caudrey–Dodd–Gibbon equation. Using N-soliton solution and a novel velocity resonance condition can generate soliton molecules of the the extended Caudrey–Dodd–Gibbon equation. Further, by changing the distance between two solitons in a soliton molecule, each single soliton molecule can transform an asymmetric soliton. Also, we observed the collision between one and two soliton solution with a soliton molecule. Next, according to the N-soliton solutions, several novel types of mixed breather-soliton molecule solution can be generated. Finally, some related pictures that mentioned above are presented.
