Abstract In this work, three rare earth complexes, namely, [La(cpna)2·2H2O]n (1), [Nd(Hcpna)(cpna)•3H2O]n (2) and [Tb(Hcpna)(cpna)•3H2O]n (3) have been synthesized by solvothermal method based on 5-(4-carboxyphenoxy)nicotinic acid ligand (H2cpna) and rare… Click to show full abstract

Abstract In this work, three rare earth complexes, namely, [La(cpna)2·2H2O]n (1), [Nd(Hcpna)(cpna)•3H2O]n (2) and [Tb(Hcpna)(cpna)•3H2O]n (3) have been synthesized by solvothermal method based on 5-(4-carboxyphenoxy)nicotinic acid ligand (H2cpna) and rare earth metal ions La3+, Nd3+ and Tb3+. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that complex 1 is a two-dimensional network structure, 2 and 3 are isostructural complexes, and the structures are all one-dimensional chain structures. The fluorescent test results show that the complex 3 has excellent fluorescence properties, and can emit bright green light under the irradiation of the ultraviolet lamp at 365 nm. Magnetic results indicate weak antiferromagentic interactions in the complex 2 and 3.
