Abstract In this paper, a fast and robust mathematical model for the leveling process of steel plates is presented. The model calculates the leveling forces for a given plate and a given work roll configuration of the leveler. Compared to existing models, the computation time of the algorithm is substantially reduced and the algorithm reliably converges even in case of unusual parameter combinations. The model has also been validated with measurements from an industrial leveler.
