Abstract A lot of motor direct-drive turntables used in aerospace operate at ultra-low speed and require high speed precision. Thus, the limited encoder resolution becomes critical to the speed estimation of the turntable system. In this paper, The speed observation process in feedback channel is mathematically modeled and the speed oscillation induced by the observation error is fully analyzed. To get the high speed precision under limited encoder resolution, a novel speed estimator based on tracking differentiator (TD) is proposed, and related parameter tuning method is discussed. Finally, numerical simulations and related experiments were carried out, which showed the effectiveness of the speed estimator algorithm.
