Abstract The current manufacturing industry trends are characterized by a growing level of product customization in order to meet the consumer’s expectations. In this context, the set of Mixed-model assembly lines (MMALP) appears a suited solution to respond to this demand fluctuation. So, it is primordial to find a reactive approach to rebalance the assembly line rapidly and obtain an effective solution for MMABP. To tackle this problem, we propose in this article a reactive generalized simulated annealing (GSA) using a type-2 fuzzy controller in charge of adapting dynamically the generalized simulated annealing parameters during the search. The use of this approach will allow the algorithm to achieve higher accuracy and performance. This will be evaluated using well-known instances of MMABP taken from literature.
