The study identified the practices of four Sri Lankan senior secondary school science teachers and examined them in relation to Pintrich and Zusho's (2007) model of student motivation and self-regulated learning (SRL). All teachers reported practices which were related to the classroom context, motivation, and self-regulated processes of the model. Most of the teachers’ reported practices were based on instructional methods and regulating context. There were also several practices that the teachers used that were not represented in the model. These practices related to two new components (school context and out-of-school social factors) which were added to the model. It is suggested that Sri Lankan teachers should be encouraged to use practices that develop SRL to foster their students’ SRL.
