Abstract A novel empirical bi-parametric model based on the Vickers hardness HV and a microstructural length parameter, l, is proposed to estimate the fully-reversed threshold-Stress Intensity Factor for long cracks. The model was calibrated on fatigue data of wrought alloys taken from the literature and then extended to additively manufactured (AMed) metals. Experimental results, generated from testing AMed maraging steel 300 specimens containing natural defects as well as taken from the literature, were compared successfully with the estimation based on the El-Haddad model defined solely on the basis of the HV and l.
