Abstract In this paper, we present a different method to get explicit exact solutions of the Maxwell's equations for the spherical wave in logarithmically nonlinear media. We also prove that the solution seeking routine is effective for a large class of nonlinear wave equations and power or logarithmic nonlinearity is necessary for multiplicative separable solutions. Physical interpretation of the multiplicative separable solution is given, which is regarded as a modulation of magnitude on the basis of an electrostatic field with the same multiple at all spatial points.
