Abstract In order to ameliorate the measurement precision of projectile flight parameters of continuous rapid-firing weapon, the spatial structure of light-screen array of sky screen vertical target is required to be calibrated precisely. In this paper, a novel calibration method is proposed. Firstly, the spatial point light sources are constructed with multiple laser devices driven by transistor–transistor logic(TTL), then the spatial coordinates of multiple points on the light-screen plane of the sky screen vertical target are obtained by double-theodolite, 2-dimensional position sensitive detector(2-D PSD), grating ruler and oscilloscope, etc. The least square fitting method is used to get the spatial plane equations of all the light-screens, so that calibration of the light-screen array spatial structure of sky screen vertical target can be realized precisely. The uncertainty of this method is evaluated up to 37″. The plane equation calibration experiment of the light-screen of sky screen vertical target is completed. Through comparative experiment of firing with live ammunition, the calibration results of the method proposed in this paper are compared with that of the traditional method, indicating that in a 500mm × 500 mm target plane, the measurement precision of the firing coordinate is improved by 15% of abscissa axis, and improved 13% of ordinate axis.
