Abstract UV-plane coverage (UVPC) represents the distribution of spatial frequency sampling of the interferometric array. This paper focuses on designing an interferometric array configuration for the expected UVPC. The method presented uses the array that can entirely sample the expected UVPC points as the initial array, and gradually deletes apertures to obtain a final array. The advantage of the method is that it can design an array configuration for any expected UVPC and the distribution of the generated UVPC can be quite similar to the expected one. Two examples are given to present the feasibility of the method.
