Abstract A alternative scheme is theoretically proposed to generate a two-mode non-Gaussian entangled state, named as two-variable Hermite polynomial excited squeezed vacuum state (THPESVS), where each mode of a two-mode squeezed vacuum state undergoes interference at a tunable beam splitter (BS), followed by conditional multi-photon measurements in one of the output ports. Especially, the analytical expression of the success probability of detection is obtained, which is related to the Jacobi polynomials, depending on the input squeezing parameter, the transmission coefficients of BSs and the photon number of detection. It is found that THPESVS may exhibit a wide range of entanglement phenomena by tuning the above parameters of their interaction. Our work provides general analysis on how to prepare polynomial quantum entangled states, which may be useful in the fields of quantum information and quantum computation.
