Abstract For the study of nonlinear dynamic characteristics of Biophoton Emission signal of wheat kernels, the permutation entropy is introduced to distinguish normal kernels and infected ones. The utility of permutation entropy for wheat signal with different degree of ultra weak luminescence is investigated, and the effect of embedded dimension and time delay on permutation entropy is studied. Experimental results on ultra weak luminescence signal of wheat analysis confirm that the permutation entropy provides an effective measure for testing the difference between normal wheat and infected wheat.
