Abstract Using the transfer matrix method and the two-fluid model, we calculate the transmittance spectrum in a one-dimensional photonic crystal with the Thue-Morse fractal structure. The photonic crystal composed layers of semiconductor (GaAs) and superconductor ( HgBa 2 Ca 2 Cu 3 O 8 + δ ) materials. In this study, we researched the effects of the temperature, hydrostatic pressure and thickness increases of the superconducting layer on the transmittance spectrum. We report that the optical response is mainly due to the increase in pressure, with a shift towards the higher-frequency regions of the transmittance spectrum. Additionally, we found that transmittance peaks split by increasing the length of the fractal structure and new gaps appeared when the thickness of the superconducting layer increased.
