Abstract In this manuscript we have studied the synthesis of rare earth doped Y0.50Gd0.45RE0.05BO3 (RE = Eu3+, Tb3+ and Er3+) by epoxide gel approach and their influence on photoluminescence properties for the applications in red and green LEDs. The structure refinement of the PXRD data was carried out by the Le Bail method using TOPAS3 software. The lattice parameter increases with the increase in Gd content in YBO3 and no unaccounted reflections were shown in Le Bail refinement parameter which confirmed the monophasic nature of doped samples. FESEM images shows the grain size increases with the substitution of rare earth doping in Y0.50Gd0.50BO3 and the grains have agglomerated irregular morphology. The stretching and bending modes of B-O bond were observed by FTIR and Raman spectrum. The UV spectra shows that the entire features confirmed the doping of Eu3+, Tb3+ and Er3+ ions in the lattice. Red and green emission band of Eu3+, Tb3+ and Er3+ ions in Y0.50Gd0.50BO3 phosphor were observed in the photoluminescence spectra and local symmetry of these doped ions were determined by Judd-Ofelt analysis.
