Abstract In this paper, the analysis of the low cycle fatigue behavior of P91 steel is presented. First, experimental tests are performed to recognize different aspects of material behavior. Then an appropriate constitutive model is developed within the framework of thermodynamics of irreversible processes with internal state variables. Two different approaches to fatigue damage modeling are applied comparatively to describe the final stage of material cyclic softening. The material parameters are identified, and the model is validated based on the available experimental data.
