Highlights • A primary aortoenteric fistula is an exceedingly rare complication of diverticulitis.• Unstable bleeding can be provided with a salvage procedure (covered stent) in the acute phase.• The patient needs a close follow-up due to risk of infection.• Patients with aortoenteric fistulas need laparotomy with resection of the fistula.
