Highlights • Proximal junctional kyphosis in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is frequent.• Poor visualization of the sagittal plane leads to incorrect identification of curve type.• Residual or progressive symptomatic kyphosis may require surgical treatment.• Pedicle subtraction osteotomy may be an effective corrective technique.
