Highlights • Strokes are rare in paediatric population.• Posttraumatic strokes in children may be the result of several linked factors.• Postoperative strokes may occur even several days after surgery thus the need for extended follow up.• Based on trauma mechanism and consequences, children presenting stroke risk should be early identified.
