Abstract In this paper, effect of mass-transfer induced velocity slip on heat transfer of laminar boundary layer gas flows above a linearly stretching/shrinking sheet at macroscale is theoretically studied. Our exact similarity solutions demonstrate that mass-transfer induced velocity slip is able to appreciably change the gas flow velocity, which subsequently leads to non-negligible changes in temperature distribution and wall heat flux through thermal convection process.
