Abstract This paper deals with the solution of an inverse bioheat transfer problem, by using Approximate Bayesian Computation (ABC). A Sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) method is applied for simultaneous model selection and model calibration (estimation of the model parameters) by using synthetic measurements. Two competing models are considered in the analysis of the thermal damage of biological tissues. The results show that the ABC-SMC algorithm provides accurate results for the model selection and estimation of the thermal damage model parameters.
