Abstract In this work, the pyrolysis characteristics of waste clay oil were studied using thermogravimetric and reaction kinetic analysis. Additionally, the two temperature stages in the pyrolysis process of waste clay oil were analyzed. Furthermore, Py-GC-MS was used to analyze the main products of cracked volatiles at different pyrolysis temperatures, it showed that the higher pyrolysis temperature was beneficial to promote the decarboxylation reaction in the pyrolysis reaction. Also, it suggested the probable occurrence of cyclization reaction during the pyrolysis process. Based on the pyrolysis characteristics of waste clay oil, a fixed bed rapid pyrolysis experiment was carried out to explore the properties of pyrolysis products. Subsequently, the pyrolysis products of waste clay oil were analyzed by means of FTIR, NMR, GC-MS and GC-TCD/FID.
