W hen a physician has a few extra minutes to spend with a patient during an office visit, what discussions about pharmacotherapy will have the greatest impact on health care outcomes (1)? Should the physician emphasize the importance of taking aspirin for primary prevention? How about keeping blood pressure (BP) under control? Taking warfarin to prevent systemic thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation? Using statins for primary or secondary prevention? Or, perhaps, extending dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) in patients with a history of myocardial infarction (MI)?
