Abstract Excel skills are frequently identified as a core technology skill for accounting students. The purpose of this manuscript is to describe a game-based approach to teaching Excel shortcuts. Using this classroom activity, students are first introduced in “small chunks” to various Excel shortcuts across multiple class meetings. After coverage of the shortcuts, students are grouped into three teams to play a Jeopardy!-style game as a class. Students are exposed to intermediate Excel features and improve their overall understanding of the use of Excel in the accounting profession.
