Abstract In this paper, WO66−, La3+ single, co-doped Gd2MoO6 up-conversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) were successfully prepared via the partial substitution of anionic groups and cations in the matrix. Compared to that of Gd2MoO6: 2%Er3+/15%Yb3+ UCNPs, the green and red emission intensities of (Gd0.6La0.4)2Mo0.95W0.05O6: 2%Er3+/15%Yb3+ under 980 nm excitation increased about 5.3(526 nm), 5.6(547 nm) and 4.8(655 nm) times, respectively. The emission intensity of green light was not enhanced, while the emission intensity of red light was increased by 6.6 times under 1550 nm excitation. To further improve the luminous efficiency, dual-wavelength was also chosen as the excitation source. It was found that compared to the total of emission intensities excited by two monochromatic lasers (980 nm and 1550 nm), both WO66−, La3+ single and co-doped NPs exhibited synergistic effect, which improved the photovoltaic effect of solar cells. Meanwhile, the temperature-sensing effect of Gd2Mo0.95W0.05O6: 2%Er3+/15%Yb3+ was also discussed carefully. In addition, it was firstly found that the Gd2Mo0.95W0.05O6: 2%Er3+/15%Yb3+ sample had excellent selectivity and reproducibility for the gaseous dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP, neurwarfare agent simulator).
