As with our initial univariate analysis, this indicates the superiority of PSM compared with BM or ASM for hernia recurrence, with no increased risk of SSI by multivariate analysis. Additional analysis provided here confirms our initial findings that PSM is safe and efficacious in the setting of contaminated ventral hernia repair, resulting in the lowest risk of SSI and the lowest risk of hernia recurrence compared with BM or ASM. We again confirm our recommendation that large-pore, monofilament polypropylene mesh placed in the retromuscular position is the preferred approach for repair of ventral hernias in the setting of contamination.
