Abstract We challenge the current, psychology-based model ​of affect’s influences on the entrepreneurial process (and some of its past empirical support). We review the current model and identify its limitations. We analyze the relevance of ’hope’ as a cognitive capability underlying the entrepreneurial process and assess why it has yet to be leveraged in our field. We then use hope and the recent studies on emotional control to argue a new, and more prescriptive model of the role of affect in entrepreneurial cognition and action.
