Abstract The penetration of wind speed in electrical grids causes some defective problems such as power and speed fluctuations of the generator. The regulation of wind speed is carried out by blade pitch control. The variations of load demands, wind speed fluctuations, and the uncertainties of system parameters are the main obstacles that face the blade pitch control. This paper proposes a new design of adaptive model predictive control for blade pitch control in wind energy conversion system. In addition, the parameters of the proposed controller are selected based on a new intelligence technique named crow search algorithm. The results of the proposed method are compared with the fuzzy proportional-integral controller. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the controller is checked against the variations of load demands, wind speed, and the uncertainties of system parameters.
